We definitely live in an *exponential* time. We have a great privilege and duty to each other and to the world – more than ever in human history. We can be instruments of change like never before.

I think this can be both a good and bad.

The Good: Our ability to grow and connect on a world stage is available to most of us in these times. The Internet although filled with a lot of sinful things can also be filled with many blessed things. (ie. this site! ;) Another blessed thing comes from one of my most favourite websites. Happyslip.com. Happyslip is a girl on You Tube who started out as just a one-woman-comedy-show putting together a variety of funny material as a creative outlet. Recently, she surpassed subscribership of the famously-fake Lonelygirl15. Happyslip has been creating some really entertaining material and has gotten global attention. She has been around for a year-and-a-half but has not let the fame get to her head. She has continually made wholesome-family-oriented material for the masses. I think a lot of people have subscribed to her because of her wholesome nature. I’ve been following her You Tube account for over a year now. It’s been fun to watch her grow celebrity while maintaing her integrity. She is Christian and has on occassion worshipped openly on the Internet. She is an instrument of positivity and good message and is using this exponential age to express it.

The Bad: I think with this exponential level of growth, as a church we must be wary of the pitfalls and dangers that come with such development. Having developed these capabilities to grow at unprecedent levels I think we narrow the gap between human limitation and god-like capacity. When we become fixated on growing and expanding our scope we must be careful not to make growth and pride our idols. In the scriptures, God reminded the Israelites not to make idol of other gods. Like we understand today, idols come in many forms. We must always be cognizant and reflective of God’s plan and to ensure we don’t veer from the path. We must serve the Lord and not our own ambitious gains.

Thanks Lon for sharing this presentation. It is a truly remarkable time we live in and we should make every effort to pray that we can all live dutifully through the times to effect the world in a positive and god-centred way.
