Overwhelmed…

by Lon on April 5, 2008

This is a photo of an exhausted fireman after 9-11.

Ever come to a place in your life when your best just isn’t good enough?

Ever been surrounded by such chaos and destruction that nothing you do seems to matter?

What do you do when you’re overwhelmed?

This is a worthwhile conference for us Mosaic Baptist people to attend. However, it will cost almost $1,000.00 for an individual. The conference itself is not costly but the travel is. Air fare is almost $480.00 alone. Shared accommodation and rental car could help. Any thoughts?

Do anyone know someone in Minneapolis that I can stay for 3 nights?

Well, I hope that they will host the next one in Toronto. It is deseparately needed here.

For those interested…

Hey Mosaic!

Wow, my 1st blog :D — nothing too special or original; I mainly wanted to pass on an email I received from GFM (Global Frontier Missions), with whom I did a short-term trip last summer and still receive general and prayer updates from. I know that many of you expressed interest and a specific passion for helping provide safe, drinking water to those in need of it and related to that, well-drilling. GFM, one of MANY organizatinos, does provide this opportunity through short-term summer trips, if you are interested. But with regards to this email, they are wanting to raise enough funds to buy a well-drilling rig, which will allow GFM to continue to enable locals to reach water sources and help dig wells in much less time than before. This will allow GFM to be able to build more wells, to develop more relationships, and also to provide employment opportunities for the locals. So that’s just a short summary — here’s the email:

“Dear Fellow Laborers in the Great Commission,
As you may know many people around the world don’t have access to sufficient water supplies and safe drinking water.  The same holds true in the different regions of Oaxaca, Mexico.   Global Frontiers Missions is located in the town of Tlaxiaco with the purpose of reaching out to the unreached Mixteco Indians in the surrounding villages.  One part of sharing the gospel with the local people is meeting the total person’s needs through community development projects.   We are building relationships with the indigenous people and hoping to share the love of Christ with them.  Sometimes it is difficult to share about the Living Water when families lack physical water to adequately take care of themselves.  So, we are doing what we can to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of the people here.
A majority of the locals must buy their water from supply trucks which can be very expensive considering the local income levels.  Interestingly enough, where they live, water may be only 30 feet below the surface of their land.  Unfortunately, there is not sufficient money or resources to get to the water sources.  In Tlaxiaco and surrounding areas, there are very few viable services to dig wells.  There is also no affordable method for water purification.  The quantity and quality of the water is lacking, as it is in so many other parts of the world.  We can change this!
Through a cooperative effort with local indigenous Christians, Global Frontier Missions has started several well drilling and water purification projects.  We have successfully dug a handful of wells and now have bio water filters that are working to produce potable water for the people.  We are hoping to expand our water projects by getting equipment that will allow us to dig wells in much less time.  By purchasing a LS-200 portable well drilling rig we can better meet the demand and drill up to 200 feet in just a few days.
The initial investment is pretty large as it will run about $20,000 to buy the rig and have it transported down to us from Houston.  However, the equipment is supposed to be good for up to 100 wells which ends up providing each family drinking water for about $200!  We also hope to use this endeavor to employ local people and provide a good source of income for their families as well.  We really think that this is an excellent opportunity to invest in the work here and know that this project will work hand in hand with our church planting efforts to further the kingdom.
Would you please join us in prayer and pass this along to anyone that you feel might be interested in giving towards this project?  With the cooperation of individuals and churches back home, we hope to raise the initial $20,000 by June 4, 2008.  It would be great if we could begin using this equipment as early as this summer when our short-term teams come to minister with us.
Please feel free to check out our website to find out more about Global Frontier Missions’ ministry or you can shoot me an e-mail at grant@globalfrontiermissions.com if you have any other questions or concerns.  Checks can be sent to: Global Frontier Missions; PO Box 394; Goochland, VA 23063.  We also accept online donations ; just remember to designate your contribution as “well drilling project”.
In His Service,
Grant Haynes

Did you know that 6881 out of the 16255 people groups on the earth have no access to the gospel?  639 of those have more than 100,000 people and are completely unengaged.  What are you going to do about it?”

No obligation.. However, I just thought I would present this opportunity for many of you out there who expressed related interests..

Take care,

Sabrina
