- the neglect of the Grecian widows reminds me of the cultural divides even within the community of Christ… it bothers me that we neglect people even of the same faith due to culture, ethnicity, race, gender, age, class, etc… i wonder who God’s calling to serve and bridge these divides today
- Just serving food required the qualifications of being spirit-filled and wise
- maybe there’s no such thing as just serving food, and all of life and work requires the Spirit and wisdom
The Story of Ananias and Sapphira
- Why is it that we want to appear more generous than we are? What’s bad, and possibly even good about that?
- Ananias didn’t even have a chance to respond to the accusations upon him – how would our lives be viewed if we didn’t have a chance for the final word?
Gamaliel – a teacher of the law – “I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone; because if this plan or this undertaking is of human origin, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them – in that case you may even be found fighting against God!”
Yet they had the apostles flogged anyways.
v20 – “Go, stand in the temple and tell the people the whole message about this life”
Peter and John were ‘uneducated and ordinary’, yet their boldness allowed them to do the unexplainable and startle the culture around them. How might we, who are mostly highly educated, be bold and point others to Christ?
When they were told to cease speaking of Christ, they declared “We cannot keep from speaking about what we have seen and heard”. What have you seen and heard that you cannot contain?
Either what we’ve seen and heard (so far?) is not worth proclaiming, or we’re trying really hard to suppress something that is good and beautiful within us.
