Continuing our journey through John
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ”16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only,,who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.
A few thoughts
- Can you imagine what it was like for God to encapsulate himself in something so fragile as human flesh?
- The Message translation goes as far as saying god ‘moved into the neighborhood’. There is this strong sense that God wanted to be a part of the fabric of our culture, joining us right where we live.
- Christ was full of grace and truth? Why do we so often think we need to speak or act with one or the other?
- John was being poetic with the phrase of ‘the one who comes after… because he was before me’. The underlying truth in it all is that while we may see God presently and actively working in our lives now and going forward, He’s always been there long before we realized.
- What might it mean by God now being ‘known’?

My mom’s first surgery in early October was not final. The doctor found the cancer cells in her bladder was aggressive and it is likely to come back. To my surprise, mom did not break down by the bad news but she was at peace to know the truth. She said that she understood it was God’s timing for her to live or die, but she would pray for a less painful journey. She will be going for a day surgery on Dec 8 to see if there is new finding. Please pray for her faith and peacefulness in Christ.
As many people are busy in preparing for Christmas in terms of gifts purchase, parties, etc, I wonder who will care about the sick and their family like me. Therefore, I want to organize a party in December mainly for people mentioned above regardless their religious background as a supporting network during this difficult moments of life. I have emailed my idea to some people and wait for their feedback.
What do you think about this kind of Christmas party?

This season, seriously consider spending less on meaningless gifts, and giving more in ways that really matter.
Continuing our Journey through the Gospel of John
10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God– 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
Imagine what it would be like for your own creation not to recognize you? What would it be like to conceive, birth, and raise a child, only to have them not be aware of your great love for them?
God stepped into human history (His Story), as the author of life and was largely unwanted. Yet even as we fail to recognize him, even as we harm one another, and even as we abuse His name, he relentlessly pursues us and extends his hand to us that we might be his children once again.
His invitation is not to any select group or demographic. It has nothing to do with where you’ve been, or what you’ve done. It has everything to do with him graciously renewing us from the inside out and providing us a birthright we never deserved. We are children of the most high God… let that sink in.
